10th Annual BIG GIVE -- "For the Love of Samford's Story!"

April 5-6

The 10th annual Big Give event starts tomorrow! During his inauguration, Samford University President Dr. Beck Taylor set renewed intentions for the University with Ephesians 3:16-19 ‘rooted and grounded in love.’ He asks that we make such love the foundation of any vision we might cast together, for love to be the cornerstone of all we do at Samford.  During the Big Give, the library will be asking for your support with “For the Love of Samford’s Story!”

The Samford University Archives houses over a thousand audio tapes, many on open reel formats. With time, these types of tapes break down. Each day, they degrade more.

The voices on these tapes offer unique opportunities to hear the words of Samford leaders, theologians, activists, politicians and even astronauts as they relate to topics such as community, race, religion, historical events, and education.  These are voices from the past that together tell the Samford story.

Currently these recordings are not easily accessible nor well documented. With your help, these recordings can be digitized and made publicly available.

Each tape costs approximately $125 to have the content professionally restored and migrated from the unstable magnetic tape to a digital format. With each tape funded by your donation to the Big Give, a voice from Samford’s past, from Samford’s story, will be saved and heard again.

Please consider making your gift online via the Big Give website and helping us reach our goal to make these snippets of the Samford story available to this and future generations. While we’re passionate about the library’s project in particular, you can direct your gift to any area of campus most meaningful to you.

2019 Samford "BIG GIVE" -- Help the Library Help Students!

The Samford "BIG GIVE" is an annual 36-hour event where you can help make a difference by supporting a variety of projects sponsored by organizations across campus.  This year, we need your help in bringing charging options for students' electronic devices here in the library.

These charging lockers provide a safe and secure charging option for students' laptops, tables, phones, and other electronic devices.  The large bays are equipped with 110V power outlets and USB ports for charging options and feature keypad locks that work just like a hotel safe with user generated codes.

The more you help, the more lockers we can provide to students -- so CLICK HERE to give to the "BIG GIVE" today!

Support the Library's 2018 "Big Give" Project!

The Samford University "Big Give" is an annual fundraising event that encourages students, alumni, faculty and staff to support a variety of projects across campus.  This year the Big Give will be held April 10th and 11th (tomorrow and Wednesday), and we here at the library would greatly appreciate your support of our project: The Crimson Collection.

The University Library Special Collection and University Archives is the home of Samford’s history. Part of that history are the pictures, stories, and columns written by Samford students in The Crimson over the years. Many alumni and faculty that have built and left their mark on the university reside in these resources.  It is our goal to make them more readily accessible as well as preserve the content by digitizing all of The Crimson editions. The preservation of these original sources are enhanced due to their availability in digital format.

If you'd like to help us reach our $5,000.00 goal, you can give online here by clicking on "GIVE NOW" and selecting "Crimson Collection" in the pull-down menu under "Designation."  If you're going to be on campus during the Big Give and would be interested in making a cash gift, stop by Ben Brown Plaza as various incentives/rewards will be offered throughout the day.  Contributions of all sizes are helpful, welcome, and greatly appreciated!

The library embarked on a similar project in 2010 to digitize our archive of the Samford yearbook Entre Nous in celebration of its centennial anniversary.  The collection may be found online here.
