Please take a few minutes to visit the library database trials page for links to databases currently under review. There are two especially interesting resources there now: The Naxos Music Library (one of my favorites) and the Gale Virtual Reference Library.

NEW CAREER DATABASES
The Network of Alabama Academic Libraries (NAAL), a consortium of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education and college and university libraries, has developed a partnership with the database producers EBSCO and Facts on File for access to two valuable career information resources: Career Library and Ferguson's Career Guidance Center.
These resources will be available at no cost to all residents of Alabama on the Alabama Virtual Library from January 2011 through June 2011.
The University Library has included these two databases in its own resource listings on the Alphabetical Database List and on the Career Information and Job Search page.
EBSCO Publishing’s Career Library is an excellent resource for individuals looking for jobs and for those who want to consider changing careers. In addition to providing information on over 2,500 occupations including job profiles on up-and-coming and out-of-the-ordinary careers, it has information on almost 4,000 2-year and 4 year colleges and universities. Some of this database’s major components include sections for assessing career interests and exploring information pertaining to occupations and higher education; searching web resources related to colleges/universities, careers, and curriculum; and test - GED, ACT/SAT, etc – preparation materials.
With the award-winning database Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center, Alabama residents will be able to research profiles of nearly 3,400 jobs and 94 industries, find guidance on building job-hunting and workplace skills, and explore more than 55,000 career and industry resources. An invaluable new feature is the comprehensive school search database--with current data provided by Peterson's Nelnet, LLC--of more than 4,000 schools offering two- and four-year degrees in the U.S. and Canada. The useful Career Interest Assessment feature helps users identify interest areas and related jobs.
Please note that you are now being prompted for your Samford username and password when accessing library resources from on campus.

THE NEW VESTAVIA PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Birmingham area is very fortunate in in its really excellent public library system, and the new Vestavia Hills Library--the "Library in the Forest"--is a wonderful new addition. It's a truly beautiful building that makes great use of its natural surroundings. Even if you're in the habit of using another branch, you should pay a visit to the new Vestavia library.
