FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH

February is Black History Month. View our newest LibGuide focusing on African-American History at http://samford.libguides.com/afamhistory, and visit the University Library to view our display in honor of Black History Month.

RESPONSIBLE PRINTING INITIATIVE

Samford University has initiated a Responsible Printing Initiative. All printers in the University Library are now connected to the GoPrint system. This semester, the University will be monitoring but not charging for printing.

INTERNATIONAL CIVIL RIGHTS CENTER AND MUSEUM

In time for Black History Month, the New York Times reports on the completion of a new International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro NC.

It is housed in the same Woolworth building where, in Feb of 1960, "...four 17-year-old freshmen at the all-black Agricultural and Technical College...sat down and ordered some food." Click here to read the New York Times article about the history and building of the museum. Click here to visit the museum online.

PBS DOCUMENTARY ON THE FREEDOM RIDERS

Samford Senior History Major Ellen Davis worked as a research assistant for this about-to-be-released film on the Freedom Riders. The film should be shown on PBS's "American Experience" in 2011, the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Rides. Click here to learn about this important documentary.
