Library COVID-19 Update

Source: Wikimedia Commons
As of the time of this post, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Samford's campus.  There are however confirmed cases elsewhere in the state of Alabama.  Samford is making significant operational changes to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for students, faculty and staff.

Starting today, March 16th, all university courses have temporarily moved to online delivery. Students will hear directly from faculty regarding instructions for online classes if they have not already done so. Likewise, students with internships or clinical requirements should contact their faculty advisors for guidance if they haven't already.

In addition, based on new guidance from the CDC suggesting sustained community spread and widespread global transmission of COVID-19, Samford University has instructed its employees to work from home beginning Tuesday, March 17th. Our gates will be locked and only essential personnel will be allowed on campus.

The Samford University Library has created an online guide that can help you contact library departments, conduct research, find instructional support, and ask for help while the university is offering online instruction during COVID-19.  You can access this guide by clicking here.

For more information regarding how the university as a whole is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, please visit the Samford coronavirus website by clicking here.

We will share updates through our social media platforms as they become available:

We look forward to resuming our on-campus operations as soon as possible.  In the meantime, stay safe everyone!

Thanksgiving, Finals, and the Christmas Holidays

It's hard to believe that we're already starting to wind down the Fall Semester as it feels we just started back, but with Thanksgiving next week and finals just on the other side that's exactly what's happening.  Here's a look at our operating hours for the remainder of not just the semester but also the year itself:

Thanksgiving

In addition, the 2nd floor conference room will be available for additional quiet study space after 5:00 p.m. on selected nights while we are operating under extended hours.

We will also be hosting study breaks during the week of finals -- follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for announcements!

Welcome back!

No matter how many years we may have been working here at the library, the first day of Fall Semester always has an excitement in the air that you just don't get any other time of the year -- even when the air is as wet as it is today -- so we're thrilled as always to see so many returning faces along with bright-eyed new ones getting their first taste of the Samford experience.  To all our returning students, welcome back!  To all our new students, welcome HOME!

With the start of the new academic year, the library has resumed its normal operating hours.  Please note however that the library will be closing at 8:00pm on Sunday, September 1st and will be CLOSED Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day.  We will re-open at 7:30am on Tuesday, September 3rd.

For more information about our hours of operation, please click here.

The BIG news, however, is that thanks to the generosity from those who contributed to the library's project during Samford's BIG GIVE event in the spring we are able to offer charging lockers to our students!  These charging lockers provide a safe and secure charging options for laptops, tablets, phones, and other portable electronic devices.  These 5-bay lockers are located on the first and second floors next to the copiers, and each bay is equipped with both 110V and USB charging options.  Each bay also features a keypad lock that works just like a hotel safe with user-generated codes.  We're excited to be able to offer this resource to our students and we anticipate many dead batteries brought back to life throughout the year!
