Welcome Back, Everyone!

The first day of Fall Term is always one of our favorite times of the year with all the excitement in the faces of both those coming back to their home away from home and of those getting their first taste of the Samford experience (well, the parts of the faces we can see not covered by masks anyway).  To all our returning students, welcome back!  And to all our new students, welcome HOME!

With the start of the new academic year, the library has resumed its normal operating hours.  Please note however that the library will be closing at 8:00pm on Sunday, September 5th and will be CLOSED Monday, September 6th in observance of Labor Day.  We will re-open at 7:30am on Tuesday, September 7th.

Also, inclement weather or other events beyond the control of the University that might cause risk or danger to students, faculty, and staff may occasionally result in changes to normal University operations, including library hours.

Printing in the library is changing.  Wepa has several options available to students, with by far the fastest and most convenient way to print class projects being to skip the library computers and use their mobile devices.  The free Wepa Print app is available for android and iOS devices. 

For laptops, students should download the print drivers from the Wepa website. 

If a file is on Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or Office365, students can go directly to the Wepa print station, sign in and browse for the file to print.

Library Hours for Summer 2021

 

We've made it through an unprecedented school year back on campus -- and while it may have certainly seemed daunting at times we were able to pull through while doing our best to ensure that Samford students and faculty/staff continued to have access to library resources and services.

We will be operating at reduced operating hours over the summer until we transition into the fall (with the hope of returning to a more normal mode of operation).  We will also continue to observe COVID-19 protocols outlined by the university here and will be open to current Samford students, employees, and invited guests only.

May 2021

Monday through Friday:  7:30am - 5:00 pm

Saturday & Sunday:  CLOSED

We will also be CLOSED Friday, May 28th and Monday, May 31st

in observance of Memorial Day.

June-July 2021

Monday through Thursday:  7:30am - 7:00pm

Friday:  7:30am - 5:00pm

Saturday: 10:00am - 5:00pm

Sunday: CLOSED

We will also be CLOSED Saturday, July 3rd and Monday, July 5th

in observance of Independence Day.

Library Hours for Spring Break

The Samford University Library will be operating under reduced hours during Spring Break next week, starting with closing at 5:00pm Friday, March 6th and remaining closed through the weekend.

The library will be open 8:00am - 4:30pm Monday, March 9th through Thursday, March 12th and will be closed Friday, March 13th through Saturday, March 14th.

We will re-open at 6:00pm on Sunday, March 15th and will resume regular operating hours on Monday, March 16th.

Thanksgiving, Finals, and the Christmas Holidays

It's hard to believe that we're already starting to wind down the Fall Semester as it feels we just started back, but with Thanksgiving next week and finals just on the other side that's exactly what's happening.  Here's a look at our operating hours for the remainder of not just the semester but also the year itself:

Thanksgiving

The library will close at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.  We will re-open at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1st.

Finals

The library will be operating under extended hours for those studying for final examinations, including staying open until 2:00 a.m. on the following dates:

Monday, December 2nd - Thursday, December 5th
Sunday, December 8th - Wednesday, December 11th

In addition, the 2nd floor conference room will be available for additional quiet study space after 5:00 p.m. on selected nights while we are operating under extended hours.

The library will be open 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday, December 16th through Friday, December 20th.  After that we will be closed through New Year's Day and will re-open at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 2nd.  We wish one and all a joyous holiday season and will see you in 2020!

The BIG news, however, is that thanks to the generosity from those who contributed to the library's project during Samford's BIG GIVE event in the spring we are able to offer charging lockers to our students!  These charging lockers provide a safe and secure charging options for laptops, tablets, phones, and other portable electronic devices.  These 5-bay lockers are located on the first and second floors next to the copiers, and each bay is equipped with both 110V and USB charging options.  Each bay also features a keypad lock that works just like a hotel safe with user-generated codes.  We're excited to be able to offer this resource to our students and we anticipate many dead batteries brought back to life throughout the year!

Library Closing Early Friday 8/16

The Samford University Library will be closing at 12 noon on Friday, August 16th for our annual In-Service event.  We will re-open at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19th.

Library Hours for Spring 2019 Finals

No doubt images of sunny days and summer travel are filling the minds of Samford students all across campus right now... but before we can get to making those daydreams happen, there's the looming specter of FINAL EXAMS standing in the way!

Starting Sunday, the Samford University Library will be open additional hours during the next two weeks to help accommodate your late-night study needs.  In addition, the 2nd floor conference room will be available after 5:00pm on nights where we're open until 2:00am for those who want some additional quiet study space.

After final exams, the library will be CLOSED weekends during the rest of the month of May.  We will also be CLOSED Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day.

Midterms are behind us, so students get to take a few days off for Fall Break.  The library will still be open, but we'll be taking it a bit easier as well with some reduced hours:

Study Breaks During Finals

Spring classes may be over, but finals are dead ahead -- and we know what that means:  putting in long hours studying at the library!  But don't worry (well, we know you're already worried about finals anyway but bear with us), we'll have some study breaks for those of you burning the late-night oil getting ready for that big exam coming up...

The Samford SGA Freshman & Senior Class Officers are sponsoring "Something Sweet for Finals Week" with Insomnia Cookies on May 7th and 8th in Room 235 of the library.  The event starts both nights at 8pm and lasts until the cookies run out.

As for the library itself, we'll once again be observing the time-honored tradition of late-night pizza breaks during finals.  We'll be offering free pizza starting at 11pm on May 8th -- and as with the cookies, the event lasts as long as the pizza lasts.

And as a reminder, the library will be open until 2:00am Sunday through Wednesday of next week -- and Einstein Bros. Bagels will be open until midnight Sunday through Wednesday of next week too!

Library Closed for Easter 2018

The Samford University Library will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30th and will remain closed through Monday, April 2nd in observation of the Easter weekend.  We hope everyone has a lovely, blessed holiday with friends and loved ones.

Library Hours for Midterms and Spring Break 2018

If we were to guess, we're pretty sure our students are looking forward to Spring Break being next week... but not quite so much to the midterms they've got to go through this week in order to get there.  Fortunately, the library will once again be open until 2am tonight through Wednesday night for Samford students needing to burn a little midnight oil.

The library will begin reduced hours for Spring Break by closing at 5pm Friday afternoon and will be open 8am-4:30pm next Monday through Thursday.  We will re-open at 6pm on Sunday, March 18th and resume our regular hours the following Monday up until the Easter weekend.

For those of you wanting a bagel and coffee, Einstein Bros. Bagels will be open regular hours this week and 8am-2pm Monday through Thursday of next week.

Throwback Thursday and Jan Term Hours

As we welcome students back onto campus from what we hope was a restful (or at least fun) and joyous holiday break, we take a look back on this "Throwback Thursday" to the construction of the Homewood campus in November of 1956 -- with the library already a central fixture.  The campus would open a year after this photo was taken.

Speaking of coming back from the holidays, the library is currently running on reduced hours for Jan Term.  We are currently open 7:30am-7:00pm Monday through Thursday, 7:30am-5:00pm on Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm on Saturday, and 1:00pm-7:00pm on Sunday.  In addition, the library will be CLOSED on Monday, January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

We will resume our regular weekly operating hours with the start of the Spring Term on Monday, January 22nd.
