Library Hours for Midterms & Spring Break

Midterms aren't usually as hectic here at the library as they are during finals, but we still have a good number of students burning the late-night oil getting ready for their exams.  To help them in their studies the library will be open extended hours next week:

Monday, March 4th through Wednesday, March 6th

7:30 a.m. - 2:00 a.m.

For those wanting a late-night snack, our Einstein Bros Bagels will be open 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. those days as well.

The Samford SGA has scheduled a study break event for 8:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. on Monday in our 2nd floor conference room DALIB 233/234/235.  That space will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday nights after 5:00 p.m. for students wishing additional quiet study space.

After midterms are over, we turn our attention to Spring Break the following week.  The library will operate under reduced hours until the students return:

• Friday, March 8th: 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
• Saturday, March 9th: CLOSED
• Sunday, March 10th: CLOSED
• Monday, March 11th: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, March 12th: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, March 13th: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m..
• Thursday, March 14th: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
• Friday, March 15th: CLOSED
• Saturday, March 16th: CLOSED
• Sunday, March 17th: 6:00 p.m. - midnight

Einstein Bros Bagels will be open 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. during the week of Spring Break.

The library will resume normal operating hours at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18th.

Welcome back everyone!  We hope everyone had a joyous and relaxing holiday break!

The Samford University Library is currently operating under reduced hours to start off 2019:

Sunday -- 1:00pm - 7:00pm

Monday -- 7:30am - 7:00pm

Tuesday -- 7:30am - 7:00pm

Wednesday -- 7:30am - 7:00pm

Thursday -- 7:30am - 7:00pm

Friday -- 7:30am - 5:00pm

Saturday -- 10:00am - 5:00pm

Additionally, the library will be CLOSED Monday, January 21st in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We will resume our normal operating hours when we re-open at 7:30am Tuesday, January 22nd.

Planning on burning the ol' "midnight oil" with final exams coming up?  Starting Monday, the Samford University Library will be open additional hours during the next two weeks to help accommodate your late-night study needs!

WW1 Armistice 100th Anniversary

Sunday, November 11, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of the First World War.

WWI or “The Great War” was the largest and deadliest war to that point in history. From July 1914-November 1918 dozens of countries on multiple fronts fought around the clock. It was the advent of many different modern war technologies, such as planes and deadly gas, helping make it one of the most horrifying conflicts in history.

At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month “The War to End All Wars” was over. Over 65,000,000 were dead, with millions more wounded and displaced.

An arm of the American Red Cross was based out of Birmingham. Many local people who could not serve in the military, many women, worked to provide relief services for those serving in the war.

Many of the applications for service in the Red Cross include a desire to serve their country as their reason for volunteering. The Samford University Library Special Collection has many of these applications, including one from Howard College Alum Frances Youngblood.

New Online Resource -- Statista

The Samford University Library is excited to announce that we are now able to offer Statista to our students, staff and faculty!  Samford joins over eight hundred institutions of higher learning in offering this electronic resource -- a community that includes prestigious schools such as Harvard, Michigan State, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, M.I.T., Rutgers, Stanford, Vassar, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Alabama.

Statista is a statistical database that offers comprehensive and efficient access to over one million statistics and facts on eighty thousand topics in one hundred seventy multidisciplinary categories from more than twenty-two thousand sources. It has the ability to quickly and comprehensively access multifaceted statistical data in six hundred industries, making this resource applicable to a wide variety of programs and disciplines.

Statista allows you to search by concept, location, industry, societal trends, etc., and to export the reference for the original source into a variety of formats.  Furthermore, it automatically formats the reference to be compatible with five different academic style guides.  These features make it easier than ever for students to use its data in term papers, presentations, or projects.

Samford students and employees can access Statista via our website’s database listings.  If you are visiting the campus, please visit the University Library’s circulation or ASK US desks to inquire about temporary access to online research resources.

Library Hours for Fall Break

Midterms are behind us, so students get to take a few days off for Fall Break.  The library will still be open, but we'll be taking it a bit easier as well with some reduced hours:

• Friday, October 5, 2018:  7:30am - 5:00pm
• Saturday, October 6, 2018:  10:00am - 2:00pm
• Sunday, October 7, 2018:  2:00pm - 6:00pm
• Monday, October 8, 2018:  7:30am - 8:00pm

The library will resume its regular operating hours on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.
