"AN ALTERNATIVE TO GOOGLE."

First, I would like to thank my colleagues in the library, as well as those I met last week during new faculty orientation, for their warm welcome. I am delighted to be part of the Samford community.

The June 22 issue of Inside Higher Ed (http://insidehighered.com) contains an article discussing a book digitization project described as providing an approach to digitization that is "more library driven" than
Google's. For example, it provides libraries with greater decision-making authority over the type and scale of the materials to be digitized. A link to the article may be found here: http://insidehighered.com/news/2007/06/22/digitize.
